There is a lot of variation in the apparent whiteness and brightness of
commercial art papers. Most of the papers sold as "stock" and some of
the papers sold as art papers will have ratings for how white they are
(which helps especially if you are buying stock online).

If you go to a store that supplies paper stock to print shops, you can
really see the variation as you browse. A really bright, white stock
will make some other "white" stock look dingy and gray.
