If $400 is too high for professional level software and high speed cutting of the Gazelle, you might want to consider the Cricut Expression as an alternative, with the additional purchase of software that allows you to cut to it, (as opposed to investing in the expensive cartridges that are sold for it.) Recent software developments have added the Cricut Expression to my "Recommended" list, because I can now cut to the "E," any of my intricate OA projects with a reasonable speed and accuracy. It has the 11.4" cutting width limitation that I can live with most of the time. You can purchase this machine now at Walmart.com for $175, and many local stores have it on clearance. I have heard of a few stores that are offering them on clearance for $100. This is a steal, so grab one, even if you are not sure you will use it. It is worth giving it a try. If you want to cut your OA designs to a Cricut machine, I HIGHLY recommend getting the Make The Cut software. There are several programs now that will cut directly to the Cricut including Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL), Make the Cut (MTC), and Fairy Cut (FC). Sure Cuts A Lot does have a MAC version. Make the Cut can be used with WINE on a Mac, but installation instructions and support are not yet available. Fairy Cut is a windows only SignMax product that has many of the features of Funtime, WinPCSign, and Pazzles software. It cuts only to the Cricut. I have all three of these programs, but I prefer to use Make The Cut with my Expression, because it cuts the fastest, and has the most advanced software features. There are free Q&A Webinars available every Tuesday evening at 8:30 PM EST. Free, printable, illustrated, step-by-step tutorials are available for learning to use this software at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MTC_Tuts/ and many other online sites. All three programs are available in trial versions, so you might try downloading them to see which you like the best. SCAL gives you only a 10 day free trial. The FC trial is 30 days. The MTC trial is indefinite, but will cut a slash through your project until you purchase the full version. There is a coupon special available now for MTC bringing its cost down to $58.36. Download the FairyCut demo here:http://fairycut.com/download/fairy-cut-demo.aspxSure Cuts A Lot trial here: http://tinyurl.com/SCAL-Purchase $59.00 http://tinyurl.com/SCAL-Purchase Make The Cut trial here: http://tinyurl.com/JF-MTC2 (click on download at the top of the screen, and click on the download button that appears on the next page.) If you are designing in a software that has SVG, export, or printing to PDF, you can import those files into SCAL, MTC, or FC. AIv8 files can be imported into FairyCut. You can then cut your design creations to the Cricut.
