[Oa] cutters

I have been reading  the thread on cutters and I have question of
my own: I am leaning toward a cutter that uses computer software but I also
want to get some idea on how the companies update the software to ensure extend
the life span of the cutter. I am not sure if any/all of the machines will
require a certain version of the Windows or MAC O/S in order to operate.  If they do, then my question would be what
happens when Windows and Mac update their O/S. I don’t want to run into a
situation where the cutters themselves are still perfectly fine but will no
longer operate because the newer O/S will no longer be compatible with the
older versions.

I ran into  similar
problems with cd-roms, which are developed to use a certain version of the
Windows O/S. The cd-roms themselves are still perfectly fine but I can no
longer use them because the newer Windows O/S doesn’t recognize the older
version.  I wouldn’t want to spend
hundreds of $$ on a cutter that’s only good until the next O/S update.

Thanks

Jane
