The laser and CNC cutting machines (also called by the misnomer "die
cutting machines") can cut the pieces fairly efficiently.  Some of the
cutting machines are pretty affordable for some hobbyists, now.  For
instance, I believe the CraftRobo is currently about $260 USD retail.
