[Oa] Request for help!

Im really hoping I can get some help. I have a book called 'pop-up geometric
origami' by Masahiro Chatani (the one with a green cover). Im stuck on how 
to construct the growing crystal pattern on page 81. I really dont know 
where to begin. I dont know
where to make the cuts and folds and where to put the thread. I would be so
grateful if you could offer me any help at all. Thanks in advance,
