Some of our subscribers have slow connections and large attachments may cause them problems. If you want to mail the scans to me directly (Andrew@Evermore.com,) I would be happy to put them on the webserver in their own directory somewhere and we could post the links on the list. Would that work okay? For reference, I would be happy to do that for anyone who has patterns, pictures, or other documents they want to share and doesn't have a place to put them. Why not set up an e-group or ecircles and post up the scans instead. This way, they can view the scans before downloading. Both are available free over the internet at groups.yahoo.com or www.ecircles.com Members can also post up pictures of their OA pieces for the rest to see without having to set up a webpage. I use ecircles extensively and I find it useful for discussions and stuff and if it's a public circle, anyone who's interested can join in. If you want to, I can help set it up for you. Both organizations, eCircles and Yahoo/eGroups collect personal information about the people who sign up. They track what content those people view, including what advertisements. They track what you look at and for how long. They track where you log in from when you visit their sites. You can't even use eCircles if you don't have your browser set to accept cookies (a mechanism for tracking you across multiple visits.) They use that information for "targeted marketing." Read their privacy policies carefully. There's a lot of "sunshine" in there but, they make it clear that the purpose of those services is to get information from you so they can sell you things more efficiently. I'm sure that some people will find me paranoid for saying this but, I do Internet and web development work professionally. I have a background in social science and understand statistical behavior modeling. I know what the potential is for abuse of that information. So, I am disinclined to use those services. Most people I know who have professional-level knowledge of computers and the Internet feel the same way and won't use those services. In order to share an image or other document, all I have to do is copy it to a public directory on a webserver. I don't have to code a page or link it in anywhere or anything difficult, just copy a file. For me, it's way less work than posting to either of those group systems. Considering the volume of requests for that sort of thing on the list, I'm happy to do that for anyone here so that they can avoid having to share their hobby with a bunch of marketing people. If we need something to support a higher volume, that stuff is easy to build. Of course, you all are welcome to do as you please. This is just my opinion. As a new member I wasn't sure how you went about showing your work. I think it is inspiring to see other people's work, especially for those newbies. From the time I got my first book, it took a loooong time to do my first one. Seeing other people's work of art inspires me to do more! In the meantime, you can see my lastest card that I made which can be seen in my Picture Trail album, in the album titled Origamic Architecture. It is the tulip in a globe from the book, Best Pop-Up Greeting cards by Keiko Nakazawa. If there is someplace that anyone has their projects on, I'd love to see them. Have a great week-end. I agree, it's nice seeing other people's work and I'm delighted to see more and more OA pages on the 'Net these days. Your work is beautiful Val and I really like the way you've added other embellishments to your cards. Thanks again for sharing. If you or anyone is interested, I've recently updated my page with works from Chatani's newest pattern book. He collaborated with Takaaki Kihara on a book entitled Origamic Architecture Goes World Famous Buildings and there are some exceptional designs in it. Here's my page: http://msnhomepages.talkcity.com/HobbyCt/gstormer/ Enjoy!
